PEER-TO-PEER MENTORSHIP NETWORK

The Fit In network and platform is a non-profit initiative working to foster assimilation, integration, and relations between refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants, and US citizens.

Refugees and asylum seekers are some of the most vulnerable populations in the world. Most have survived circumstances unimaginable to most; being forced to leave their home, their job, their extended family, and everything they know. Then, they must begin again in a new country and frequently an unfamiliar language. However, even after all of that, refugees commonly face many additional challenges from the communities in which they seek safety. These include racism, prejudice, discrimination, xenophobia, exploitation, and more.

The Fit In intends to raise awareness of the refugee crisis but also promote the invaluable diversity, expertise and experience that refugees bring to US businesses, communities and schools. We are a peer-to-peer network and platform that enables refugees and American citizes to connect — sharing paths and perspective. Our mission is to help break down cultural barriers and misconceptions while creating more welcoming spaces for our refugee neighbors, and a brighter future for us all.

 FIT IN FOUNDER

Meet Jordyn

A high school junior who is not only passionate about helping others, but actively demonstrates it by working with one refugee at a time.

Fitting in can be challenging at any stage in life, but it is especially difficult when arriving in a new country without a job, home, or social connections. Watching the refugee crisis unfold and understanding this firsthand as part of a first-generation family, Jordyn developed an extensive network of high school students across the country who are helping their refugee peers learn about and assimilate into U.S. culture.

In addition to creating the first peer-to-peer refugee assimilation program, fitin-network.org, she is an accomplished student-athlete on the varsity tennis team.

The hundreds of students across the country involved with the Fit In network share the same passion for helping their mentees assimilate and “fit in”!

Join us in breaking down cultural barriers and creating a more welcoming space and home for refugees — and a brighter future for us all.
